In case of individual bungalows, duplex villas and small modern homes; home security system and features must be added so that the homeowner is assured of safety of his family and belongings.

While planning your duplex house, discuss the following with the architect:

• Burglar alarms with concealed wiring.
• Install intercoms, video surveillance, motion detectors, heat and smoke alarms hidden cameras, and other wireless home security gadgets as per requirement.
• Fire escape ladders.
• Door viewers and secured windows.
• 1 inch deadbolt locks on main doors.
• Less space between the door and the frame.
• Exterior doors with hinges towards the inside of the house.
• Glass patio doors with a metal bar in the middle bottom track of the door slide.

Tips to avoid home burglaries:

• Lock doors and windows.
• When not at home, use timers to switch on the lights.
• If house keys are lost, change locks immediately.
• Allow house cleaners and helpers after checking their references.
• Do not hide spare keys under the doormat or in the mailbox.
• Talk to your neighbors and be alert about any suspicious people or vehicles in your area.
• Keep garage doors locked even when your car is not inside it.
